This year has just been flying by that my head is spinning.

Can you believe about this time last year we met this beautiful bouncing baby boy that would change our lives forever?

The last 12 months have gone by so fast however it seem as if Jack has been a part of our lives forever. I couldn't imagine our lives without him.

Some cute things Jack is doing or learning...

1) He's obsessed with Tractors and Construction Vehicles - Our neighbor recently went to a farm show a brought home tractor pamphlets for him. He takes them everywhere, including the bathtub, bed, car rides.

2) He's loves to learn! He can't say Cat or Dog as of yet so instead he says Meow and Woof.

3) Jack loves being out doors, it's really hard to get him to come in at night to settle down for bath time and dinner.

4) Because he does prefer to be outdoors then in door he doesn't watch much television. (Which is great!) except for the Movie Cars! We can get him to watch about the 1st 15-20 Min's of the movie (the race scene) and then he's off....However the has lapped over into the NASCAR world thanks to Frank, Lou and Steve. (OH NO!)

5) He's such a happy baby. I have a really good feeling that he's going to be the class clown at school or prankster. Which may or may not be a good thing but at them moment he's doing everything in his power to make us laugh constantly.

It's almost that time of year when everything REALLY starts to speed up. The Holiday Season. Jack's 1st Gotcha Day is September 8Th. We're going to go to the local Vietnamese restaurant for dinner and we bought a coloring book bigger than him with truck and tractors. We purchased a bunch items in Vietnam to give to him on his Gotcha Day birthdays but decided this year we'll wait since he's still so young.

To all the family that are coming up on their 1st Gotcha Day....Happy Anniversary!

Offical Name change...

Tran Hue Nghia is officially Jack Kenneth Amidon!

Yesterday we received the great news from our lawyer that our re-adoption for Jack went through and he's officially Jack Kenneth Amidon and NO ONE can ever take him away from us.

Plus! I feel like the last few months have just flown by. Let me fill you in! We'll start with Jack and his milestones...

1) He said his first words! Yep! That's right he said...."Kitty, Kitty!" I'm sad to say I wasn't there to hear them the first time but he re said it for Daddy and I. He was at Grandmas for the day when Uncle Matt came over and they were playing with Grandma's kittens. I so wish I was there for that. So now we have the don't ask, don't tell policy with Grandma. So He WILL do all his firsts at home! :)

2) Jack took his first steps. He spent the day after thanksgiving with Daddy while mommy and cousin Shannon did our annual Christmas shopping. He was so miserable when I got home I couldn't put him down to take my shoes off! So after about an hour of carrying him around I put him down and boy he didn't want any of that so he got up and walked right over to me. I was so excited I screamed and clapped and scared him so he hasn't done it again since! So were working on it :)

3) Jack has 7 teeth! So we're learning how to brush his teeth. He actually really enjoys this! We bought the baby Orajel, the one that come with the finger brush and tube of paste. We put the brush on the end of the tube and he goes to town brushing his teeth!

4) Thankfully he's sleeping through the night. We'll for the most part. He wakes up and fusses for about 2-3 Min's about 4-5 times a night. We just go in his check on him make sure he has his bottle and he's usually back to sleep before we get into his room. Mom and Dad are really happy about this. We REALLY miss our sleep.

OK, I think you're caught up on milestones for Jack now. Some quick things on mom and dad.

1) Mom went back to work back in early Nov. But after about a month of that I decided I needed a change so I started a new job. I've been there for a week this coming Monday and the ladies there all seem really nice and the work is challenging and interesting. Plus I have different hours so I get to spend more time with Jack, which of course is a great thing.

2) Daddy's been really busy this Christmas season! I'm very lucky to have a husband that likes to cook! He's been cooking up a storm this holiday season! I think I've gained 5lbs since Thanksgiving.

We're all really getting into the holiday season this year. Every weekend we've been trying to make a new holiday tradition. I do have to admit sometimes it's hard to find some things to do with a 11 month old!

This New year is going to be a very special new year for us. It's the start of our first year with Jack. Plus Jack turns 1! Yep our little man was born on 1/1/08. So this year were having Jack's Rock'in New Year! We're celebrating the New Year and Jack's first birthday on 12/31/08. This should be so much fun. I think I'm looking forward more to his party then Christmas! LOL!

If I get too busy to post again for awhile have a wonderful Holiday Season, Merry Christmas and a Grand New Year!

Welcome to America!

Today is a great monumental day for Jack. As of today Jack is a American Citizen!

We'll actually since the 6Th of October we just received his certificate today in the mail.

And we've also started the re-adoption process for him in the states. This process could take 3-12 months. A few reasons to readopt in the states...

1) A Legal & Binding U.S. Birth Certificate Whether your child is getting a driver's license or adopting one day, your child will need a copy of her birth certificate at different points in her lifetime. It would be much easier for your child to seek a copy of her birth certificate through your state's department of vital records than try to get one (if it still exists) in her birth country.

2) A Legal Name Change Can Be Completed If you desire to have your child's name legally changed, re-adoption is the time to complete this change.

3) Not all U.S. States Will Recognize a Foreign Adoption Decree There are eighteen states and the District of Columbia, and four U.S. Territories that have no statutory provisions regarding international adoptions.

4) So, You Live in a State that Recognizes Foreign Adoptions - What if You Move?If you happen to move into one of the above mentioned states that do not recognize a foreign adoption decree there could be trouble. For example, your child may not be seen as a legal heir.

5) Re-adoption Is Another Reason to Have a Party!Re-adoption gives you another day to plan an event to celebrate your child's adoption.
Re-adoption may be a hassle, but the hassle may be worth it in the long run.

The great thing is though is we already have Jack in our lives. So the waiting for this process to end won't be half as bad as when we were waiting for Jack.

Life is Good!

We've been home for a few weeks now with Jack and enjoying every minute of our time together.

Jack is doing great. He's bonding so well. He's mostly sleeping through the night, spending lots of time with Grandma and Grandpa and playing with everything he can get his hands on including Mr. Parker Noodles Tail!

Next weekend Grandma is throwing him a "Welcome home party" for him so he can meet the extended family members. It's a good thing Jack likes people, he has a lot of extended family members! :)

We spent last weekend at the apple farm in Mexico. We quickly found out that Jack is still a little too small to enjoy the farm animals and the other activities. However he did pick out his own pumpkin and insisted on holding it the rest of the day.

I've been a really bad blogger these last few weeks we've been home. Now that Jeramy is back to work and Jack is taking longer naps I plan to to start updating my blog again for Jack.

I just wonder if anyone is still reading it???? :)

Goodbye Hanoi!

Yep, that's right!

We've finished our paperwork, Plan was able to move our paper work along to get Jack's visa and passport so we're saying goodbye Hanoi and hello Syracuse!

Our plane leaves at 12:40 this morning (Friday morning Hanoi time) and making the 36 hour track home.

Viet Nam is a beautiful country, the people are so friendly and the food is amazing. I'm sure i've gained back at least 5lbs. Which is amazing since we walked every where!

Were going to miss the people and culture but for once i'm happy to say I miss the weather in Syracuse. Oh and the traffic too! It was the most beautiful place we've every been. The mountains and caves were so mystical it's really hard to discribe. We stayed on a gorgous ship (the best looking one I saw anyways) and the crew was so nice and tentative. We ate like Kings and while we ate the crew would entertain Jack for us while we ate.

Jack made a lot of new friends on the ship, especially our tour guide Son (pronouned Soon). Son was really great, he played with Jack and Samatha (Dana's baby girl) on the way down which is a 3 hours bus ride and carried him around on the boat all weekend. I missed getting a picture of him and Jack together before he left on his next tour. Son is going to be a father really soon. He's really hoping for a baby boy (80% boy, 20% girl he said) because it makes his family leneiage go up. Either way he's really excited to be a dad soon. His baby is due in december.

Last night was the Mid-Autumn festival here in VN. It's kind of like Christmas for the local children. They get to stay up late, eat fresh fruit and make very colorful decorations. We were hoping to enjoy the festivity's but Jack fell asleep around 7:30 last night and we didn't want to wake him.

I'm also happy to report he finally has slept through the night since we've had him! Which means Mom and Dad have gotten to sleep through the night also! Yippee! Hopfully this is a good sign of things to come. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

Today we get to pick up Jack's passport and take him for his Visa medical. So we have a pretty action packed Day. Thursday we have his Visa interview, so if all goes well we're hoping to come home a few days early. We really enjoy it here in VN, but I think we're starting to get a little home sick.

Here's another link of pictures from the weekend. We have our passports (check), We have our Visa's (check), We have our plane tickets (check). Are we done packing????? Uhm.....NO!

So Jack's suitcase is packed and I've probably packed way more than I need for him but I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.

Jeramy and I on the other hand have just started packing today (Monday, Labor Day). And I have to say this is probably the hardest part. Were working off 3 different packing lists. We have a weight limit and were only allowed one checked bag a piece with out paying extra ($150 for each additional bag!) So let's do the math here. We need 3 weeks worth of clothes (including accessories), toiletries, shoes, and any other necessities we think were going to need into 2 suitcases and 2 carry on. Urgh!

I've been told that we can get a lot of items there and really inexpensive also. I'm hoping the quality of most of the items we can get there are the same here.

We've already packed the video camera and the camera so we plan on taking a lot of pictures. I'll send the link once I get them downloaded when we get there.

We're coming Jack!

Jack Is Coming Home!!!!!

We are so excited to announce that JACK is coming home!

We really can't believe it, it's been such a long wait and our wait is almost over.

So tonight I'm running around trying how to figure how to apply for Visa, Pack, make travel arrangements etc...

I really thought we would have to wait a few more months so I've been procrastinating and haven't done ANYTHING! but enjoying our summer.

Oh well! Apparently I have a lot of free time on my hands because I've been reading A LOT! I've put together a list of my top 10. In no particular order of course.

1) The Twilight Series by Stephanie Myers (If I had to choose, these would be my ultimate fave! Oh and there's a movie coming out about the 1st book in Dec. Check out the Site..Twilight)
2) "Katherine" by Anya Seton
3) "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini
4) "Can You Keep a Secret?" By Sophie Kinsella
5) "Good in Bed" by Jennifer Weiner
6) "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister" by Gregory Maguire
7) "A Kiss of Shadows" by Laurell K. Hamilton
8) "Widow of the South" by Robert Hicks
9) "From Baghdad" by Lieutenant Colonel Jay Kopelman
10) "To Sail beyond the Sunset" by Robert K. Heinlein

Now mind you there's no rhyme or reason to my list and as you can tell I practically read everything and anything. But it is a great way to pass the time, take your mind off things and it's powers your imagination to new levels. If anyone is interested in swapping books let me know I have to many I need to get rid of. Also a great site to check out...Paper Back Swap. It's a great site to swap books for free (You just pay for shipping) meet new people and save money.

Happy Mothers Day & Cape Cod

Sorry I'm a little late posting this but Happy Mothers Day Everyone! Especially for all the new mommy's that got referrals last week.

Jeramy and I were went out of town last weekend for a mini Vacation to Cape Cod. We stayed in an adorable little B&B called the Ship's Knees in Orleans and spent the weekend going up and down the coast shopping for antiques and eating lots of Lobster.

It was a little cold and windy but it was a lot of fun and really romantic. I also bought two adorable little rattles for our baby to be. I couldn't resist.

I do have to recommend our B&B to anyone looking for a great weekend getaway. It was so cute, relaxing and clean. I like it so much I came up with a really cute slogan for them. (Jeramy approved too!) "The Ship's Knee's is the Bee's Knees of B&B in Orleans". Which of course any one Adopting from Vietnam right now is feeling the same way I do.

I'm not one to publish press releases or to make comments about the way things are going because it's not good for the soul and it causes to much drama that I don't need.

As of today Jeramy and I have been DTV 7 months and counting. When are we going to get a referral? I don't know. I don't know if it will even be soon but I do know we are still within the time frame given to us when we got on the list. (6-9months)

I want to say so bad that we'll be OK. That since we're DTV 9/28 that we should have nothing to worry about. But as anyone in the adoption world knows anything can and will happen.

There are so many families out there that are DTV a little later than we are. I want to stay positive for them. I honestly want everyone to bring home their baby's and become a family.

I have a lot of faith in our adoption agency. I honestly believe their doing everything in their power to get those babies home and of course also being ethical about it. I do believe they are under a lot of pressure from us PAP's and from our Government. They've always been open and honest with me and I respect that, especially when it's not something we want to hear.

Maybe with good attitudes and good spirits things will change. All this negativity defiantly is not working so lets try being nicer, having positive attitudes and praying for those referrals!

Good thoughts and Prayers = Referrals!!!! I was really hoping to get a referral before now to surprise them for their birthday's. Oh well. Patience is a virtue right.

Just a few exciting things though.

1) My sister just got in engaged! Their planning on a wedding for next year around Memorial Day weekend. And I'm going to be her Matron of Honor. We're going dress shopping Memorial weekend.

2) I being feeling really bad lately about locking Parker up in his crate during the day when were out of the house. So we decided to test him and see how he does. I'm proud to announce he did amazing and his crate is in the garage hopefully for good.

3) We have two garages on our land. 1 is attached and 1 (which is bigger then my house I might add. LOL!) unattached. We decided to make the attached garage into part of use able space. We going to make it into a playroom for our family. We start construction this month. Hopefully it won't take long to finish.

4) We decided we need a vacation from all the stress of work and "the wait" so were looking to go away for a long weekend next month. We haven't figured out where yet. So far it's either Cape Cod or Toronto. Anyone been to either?

Were praying to hear more Travel approvals and referrals this week. In fact every time my phone rings my heart skips a beat and I practically kill myself trying to get to my phone and you can trust me when I say the telemarketer on the other end gets an ear full when they call.

These last few weeks "The Wait" have been especially hard on me too. My Aunt recently passed away last weekend from Cancer. We weren't close but it's a painful reminder that you're only here a short time on this earth and you should Cherish the time that you have and spend as much time as possible with you the ones you love. Also this week I've been backing up the receptionist at work (she's been out sick since Tuesday) so I've been doing my job and hers with no help and to top it off it's month end at work and if you work in the accounting field like I do you can understand how important it is to get those figures in before the 1st. Anyone that knows me knows I don't handle stress very well. (Which is probably why I have Crohn's)

In away it's been a distraction from "The Wait" but it's so hard when everyone at work, your family members and everyone else knows that your adopting ask. "When are you getting the baby?". If fact I had to remind my boss this week that I'm adopting and I WILL be going on marternity leave sometime in the near future. His response..."oh, your still doing that?". I just looked at him crossed eyed and said..."Ah, yeah". Sometimes I wonder if it would have been a better idea if we just didn't tell anyone and just surprised them one day with a baby. I'm sure that would have been interesting at the family gatherings. :)

Ok, so I'm sorry I had to vent and I appreciate you listening to me. I'm going to try to be more patient as I know there are still a few people ahead of us waiting for their adorable children. I'm praying that everyone will get their referrals and their children as humanly possible. Let's just hope it happens sooner than later!

Have a nice weekend everyone.

New look

Just playing around on the Internet tonight and thought I'd change our Blog look.

New Born Care Class and Congrats to everyone on Referrals!

So to help pass the time Jeramy and I took a New Born Care Class at St. Joe's downtown on Wednesday night. It was better than I expected and a lot more helpful for us too since were adopting. Obviously most of it was for care of a Brand new baby and not for a 6 month old, which is around the age were hoping to meet our little one.

The nurses were very nice and answered all our questions. And we got to meet a very handsome little 2 day old baby boy named Liam. I just wanted to gobble him up! He was so cute.

Jeramy was really cute too. He was concentrating so hard and actually taking notes! He did get a little woozy though when it was time to change Liam. Liam was just circumcised that day and was still a little red and sore. Jeramy did have a interesting question though. Are Vietnamese boy's circumcised?

There were also a lot Referrals this week. Were so excited for everyone and wish everyone a speedy travel date! Were praying for you!

And all those waiting for referrals or travel approval were praying for you too. Things seem to be picking up again. Hopefully these last few weeks are a sign of things to come!

Happy Easter Everyone!

Happy St. Patricks Day!!

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your worldwith joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasonsbring the best to you and yours!

I've had enough...

When we first started the path to adopt from Vietnam I wanted to read everything and anything I could get my hands on about the process. I figured why not talk to others that are going through the same things I was. So I joined APV and a few other groups to become involved in the Vietnam adoption community. At first things were great. I became friends with other PAPs and we helped each other through the difficult times and celebrated when referral's were made and travel arrangements were made.

I know I'm not the only one that has noticed lately that everything that is posted on APVs group is negative and sometimes mean. A fellow member of my adoption agency posted the same concern today. Which couldn't have come at more perfect time since I was considering leaving the group to save my sanity.

When I was requested to answer why I was leaving APV this afternoon I put a lot of thought into this and this is what I came up with...

I'm leaving your group because it is too negative. APV seems to allow people to say whatever they want not knowing if it is fact or fiction. There is too much drama with this group and if Vietnam adoptions are up in the air right now the last thing I need is to read "only 300 more people will be getting referral's before September 1st." How can someone know for a fact that there's 2000 applicants in line for referrals when their not even from AMERICA!

I believe its post's like this that has put Vietnam adoptions on the HIGH concern list with our governments and if things don't change I wouldn't be surprised if they make things more difficult or stop Vietnam adoptions all together because of post's like these that YES government officials DO READ!

- I disagree with most of the posts on the list
- I disagree with the moderators

I always thought PAPs were the most supportive understanding people in the world because they reached out and took orphans into their home. Lately, I'm not too sure anymore because of the posts I've read on here. I have come to believe that PAP are selfish and are only thinking of themselves and not of the children that need forever homes.

I wish everyone luck and I do hope Vietnam adoptions continue and referrals and approvals continue, but I don't feel I need to be apart of something so negative.

God Bless.

Of course I highly doubt they will post my Goodbye note or if fact go to the trouble of reviewing it but maybe it will shed some light on the fact they need make some changes. We'll see.

So as of 7:30 tonight I am APV free!

It's been a great week...

Congratulations to all the families that received travel approvals and referrals this week! Jeramy and I couldn't be more happier for them.

I believe there were at least 4 or 5 families that got travel approvals and 2 families received referrals for beautiful baby girls! Congrats guys! I can't wait to follow along with your journey.

This past week has been such a relief for us this week with all the good news. The wait was really getting to us with all the bad news coming in from Vietnam about the babies getting sick and the uncertainly of travel approvals and of course no news of referrals. I think were finally on the right track now and we'll finally start to see more referrals and travel approvals coming in. It's amazing how just a little good news will pick up your spirits. Come on referrals!

Also, I wanted to thank everyone for their donations for the raffle we held for this adorable blanket and Stuffed elephant my grandmother made to help raise donations for us. Unfortunately the gentleman that won the item really didn't want it so he donated it back to me to keep for our little one when he/she gets here. Isn't it adorable! I think Grandma has another one for our baby when he/she gets here so I may put this one back up for another raffle. I'll let you know. If any ones interested in one my grandma does take orders.

Congrats again to everyone that received good new this week. So to lift our spirits we went on a shopping spree for our future baby boy/girl.

Shopping for baby clothes is so exciting! Since were waiting for either we tried to buy an even amount of boy's clothes and girl clothes so whatever we don't use we'll donate to their orphanage when we go pick him/her up.

I have to admit it was so hard not to buy all the cute little girl clothes. (Did I mention there was a huge sale on baby clothes!) Oh, there was plenty of cute little boy's clothes to buy but for some reason it's so much more out there for little girls.

Jeramy was so cute going through the racks looking for the good deals and asking "What do you think about this one?" , "Is this to small?" It was adorable! We tried to stay between 3 months and up and like I said what ever is to small or for the other sex will go to the orphanage.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. I recommend Shopping to lift your spirits!

What a SAD week it's been...

Jeramy and I are so sadden by the sad news that seems to be contagious this week. We wish to extend our condolences to the many families that have lost their baby's/Referrals this week. You are forever in our prayers. Our words can not start to express what we are feeling for you and your families. We pray that you find comfort in each other and if there was anything we could do, even if you need someone to vent to we are here for you.

With today starting the beginning of a new week we hope it will bring nothing but good news and happy thoughts for everyone waiting to hear on travel or referrals.

"If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together, there is something you must always remember. My Father was stationed in Ketchkian with the Coast guard and my Mom was a Forest Ranger when they met.

Since my Dad was in the Coast Guard we moved around alot so I've lived in a lot of different Places...Alaska, Montanta (Where my dad is from), Texas, New Hampshire, Maryland and of course New York (Where my Mom is from). New York is where I will always call home, I've spent most of my life here in Upstate and most of my family lives here.

From my previous post you will notice that we do have pets in our family however won't you don't know yet is that we tend to give them really odd fun names. :) Mr. Parker Noodle is our 2 year old Sheltie. Jeramy wanted to name him just Mr. Noodle after the character on Sesame street and I wanted to name him Paker after Peter Parker (Spider-Man) so we setteled on Mr. Parker Noodle. Pixel our 4 year old MainCoon Cat is named Pixel which is ment to mean small where as being a Maine Coon she's supposed to be big also because Jeramy's favorite Si-Fi writer Robert A. Heinlein wrote a great book called "The Cat that walks through Walls". And last but not least our 1 year old Rabbit named Jefferson Airplane after the band who wrote the Song "White Rabbit".

My Friends and Family are the most important and influental people in my life. I don't know what I would have done with out them and thier support through out our adoption process.

I am the oldest of 2 siblings. I have one sister, Natasha and one brother Matthew. Natasha is 25 years old and very spirited. She's currently in a wonderful relationship with her new Bo and is trying to buy her first home. My Brother Matthew is 23 and is going to SU to become a History Teacher and is engaged to his high School GF and they plan to get married next year in Cape Cod.

Jeramy and I were introduced at a Granduation party in 2001. My Aunt is married to his 2nd cousin. My Aunt's son from her first marriage was graduating from High School when I was introduced to Jeramy by my grandmother. 2 day's after the party my Aunt called and asked if it was ok for her to give Jeramy my phone number and we've been in seperable since.

I have a huge obession with books. Any kind of books. I love all kinds of books. My Favorite writers include Nora Roberts, Gergory MaGuire, Stephaine Myers, Danielle Steel, Anya Seton and Robert A. Heinlein. My sister also has the same obession and since she's storing her stuff in my garage until she finds a house I literly have at least 400 books in my house. And I may or may not have "borrowed" a few from her. :)

I'm going to Tag seansmommy, Jules, Heather Field, danaedmisten, Jenna and Ed, Steve & Lynn, Jennifer Cheer . And I defently have collected a few over the years.

For the time being we also use this room as the guest room since our neice and nephew come to visit often and they need a place to take thier naps and play.

I'd love some opionion on how to finish it, Is it possible to be unisex with "Winnie the Pooh"? Or is that more of just a girl thing?

P.S. Yes, that is a rabbit and a cat hanging out around the chair. Now, I don't watch much T.V but I have to admit on Tuesday night I'm glued to my couch and T.V. Screen from 8-10pm. My two favorite show's American Idol and House are on! One right after another! I have to admit the first epiodes of American Idol are not my favorite, it's kinda like watching a car wreck watching the contestants being choosen to go to Hollywood, but it also a promise of more to come. House on the other hand....;) I could watch this show everyday and it never get old. :) I just hope the writers strike will end soon. There's only 1 eposide left! :(

Jeramy and I also started our "Learn Vietnamese" program today. Boy, do we have our work cut out for us. It's defently a lot harder than I thought. (not that it looked easy!) But we hope to have the basic's down by the time we travel. Hope fully we'll at least be able to pronounce everything correctly. :)

rất tốt!, rất hay!, tuyệt - (Very Good!)

I'm also looking into purchasing some good Vietnamese translation books. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Who we are....

Welcome to our Blog!

We are the Amidon's and this is our Journey to Baby Amidon! We are Jeramy & Alicia Amidon from upstate New York. We are currently in the process of adopting a healthy baby from Vietnam. We are in the process of waiting for a "referal" right now and have been waiting for 4 months now. This is where you learn "Patience" :)

We are with a wonderful Adoption agency that has been so supportive and helpful every step of the way. If we didn't decide to sign with our agency we'd probably still be on a list out to 2+ years for a available baby. Now, we should be hearing some referal news with in the next 3-4 months.

We are waiting for either a baby boy or girl. We'll take what ever god gives us as long as they need a home and are healthy.

We don't have name picked out yet, we are waiting to get our referal to pick a name. We do have our favorites but were keeping them on the downlow

We wish everyone a speedy referal and happy travels to bring thier families together. God Bless!
